Travel Tip Tuesday: Hit the slopes and Save Money

Most ski resorts are reporting tons of snow – it’s going to be a long ski season! But these days, and especially in this economy, the price of a family ski vacation can be daunting. There are the rentals, lodging, and lift tickets.

To alleviate some of the expense, make sure to go to each ski resort’s website before your trip. There are often special lift ticket/lodging packages. If that doesn’t fit into your plans, at least visit for the lift ticket discounts. If you order them in online in advance, and order multiple days, that’s a sure way to reduce the cost of those steep lift ticket prices!

For example – at www.aspensnowmass.com, you can buy an adult lift ticket in advance for four days for $340 and save $20. At www.mammothmountain.com, you can purchase an adult two day lift ticket for $165 – a savings os $9..and a child’s two day lift ticket for $82 instead of $86. (Sounds expensive and it is – but remember it is for two days!)

The savings doesn’t seem to be very big, but when you calculate if for a family of four, it adds up.

Another website to try that delivers discounted lift tickets to the major ski areas is www.skibomb.com. I found an adult lift ticket at Park City for $62 instead of $85 for one day…and to ski in Stratton, Vermont, it would cost an adult $65 instead of $85 for one day.

There is also www.liftopia.com, but I mostly found tickets there for some of the lesser known resorts, which aren’t bad either because they tend to be cheap, even though not as chic.

See you on the slopes :)
