Well, during this first week of the new year, it would seem obvious to post my recommendations on places to travel in 2008…BUT I just heard about something even more exciting that I have to pass on: An affordable hotel in New York!!! For those of you who think it an oxymoron, fear not. There is a hotel on the upper west side called "Park 79", and this winter it is offering special room rates starting at $139. (I don’t know how they are advertising that figure because when I visited the hotel website, it seems more like a room for two will cost $199…but hey! That is still a good price for NY!)
When I was a spokesperson for Hilton, I remember my colleague saying the new Hilton Garden Inn was close to $300 a night – so this boutique hotel with some personality seems a bargain. Granted I have never stayed there, but judging from the photos, quality of website, and of course the hotel’s excellent location, it seems worth a try. It got favorable reviews on tripadvisor.com – clean, nice staff, etc – the only complaint is that it has small rooms, but so do many hotels in NY.
